SuaraSulsel.id - After 20 years of struggle by community leaders in South Papua. The residents finally dared to declare the formation of the South Papua Province.

It will be held by way of a grand meeting in the Brawijaya area, Merauke, Tuesday 15 June 2021.

Quoting KabarPapua.co -- Suara.com network, the declaration of South Papua Province was marked by the act of collecting signatures on white cloths. By a number of figures from Southern Papua, as well as the inauguration of the Joint Secretariat for the Expansion of the Province of South Papua.

Support for signatures started from former Merauke Regent Johanes Gluba Gebze, Asmat Regency Regent Elisa Kambu, Asmat Deputy Regent Thomas Eppe Safanpo, to Mappi Deputy Regent Ibnu Jaya Suud.

Not only that, the South Papua declaration was also attended by representatives of Boven Digoel Regency, Muspida from four regencies, Chair of the DPRD from four regencies, DPRP members from the Anim Ha region, community, customary and religious leaders and the community.

Former Merauke Regent Johanes Gluba Gebze said that the struggle for the expansion of the South Papua Province had been running for almost 20 years, but it had always failed due to policies, starting from the level of the Papua Provincial Government and the Central Government.

“South of Papua is the Anim Ha region which upholds the values of brotherhood and peace. The Anim Ha area is currently the safest area in Papua," he said.

According to John, the southern region of Papua is the region that is at the forefront of declaring itself within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. The raising of the red and white flag is always ahead of Java because of the two hour time difference.

"People on the island of Java are still sleeping, we have been here to maintain peace. However, these national values seem to be forgotten by those in the center there," said Jhon.

The Central Government should, continued John, be grateful to the people in Papua, because the people in the eastern tip of Indonesia have always maintained the integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

The head of the South Papua Province Expansion Team, Thomas Eppe Safanpo, emphasized that this declaration shows the attitude of the community, government, and legislature in supporting the expansion of South Papua Province. "We must both support this expansion process," said Thomas Eppe Safanpo.

According to Thomas, the process of division through political channels has been carried out and has received strong support from the Indonesian House of Representatives.

"Some time ago we held a hearing with the DPR RI and got a good response," he said.
